A barrel jellyfish stranded on the Pembrokeshire coast
A 60cm diameter barrel jellyfish [Rhizostoma octopus] stranded in Pembrokeshire. September. The ferry to Skomer island, the Dale Princess can be seen in the background. Barrel jellyfish are normally pelagic (free-swimming in the deep ocean), but occasionally end up stranded on our shores.
